Course Structure:
Paper I: Teaching and Research Aptitude
Paper I is a common paper for all UGC NET aspirants and aims to assess candidates' teaching and research aptitude. It consists of 50 multiple-choice questions and carries a total of 100 marks. The duration of the exam is 3 hours, and there is no negative marking.
The topics covered in Paper I include:
- Teaching Aptitude: Concepts, objectives, levels of teaching, learner's characteristics, and teaching support system.
- Research Aptitude: Research methods, thesis and article writing, research ethics, and ICT in research.
- Comprehension: Passage-based questions to test reading comprehension skills.
- Communication: Principles of effective communication, barriers to communication, and mass media.
- Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude: Reasoning, number series, and mathematical aptitude.
- Logical Reasoning: Understanding arguments, analogies, Venn diagrams, and Indian logic.
- Data Interpretation: Sources and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data.
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT): Basics of the internet, digital initiatives in higher education, and ICT in governance.
- People, Development, and Environment: Development and environment, environmental issues, and natural and energy resources.
- Higher Education System: Institutions of higher learning, value education, and policies, governance, and administration.
Paper II: Subject-Specific Questions
Paper II focuses on the subject-specific knowledge of the candidates. It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, carrying a total of 200 marks. The duration of the exam is 3 hours, and there is no negative marking.
The syllabus for Paper II of the UGC NET Law exam covers the following topics:
- Jurisprudence: Nature and sources of law, schools of jurisprudence, law and morality, concept of rights and duties, legal personality, and more.
- Constitutional and Administrative Law: Preamble, fundamental rights and duties, directive principles of state policy, union and state executives and legislatures, judiciary, and administrative law.
- Public International Law and IHL: International law, sources of international law, recognition of states and governments, United Nations, settlement of international disputes, and international humanitarian law.
- Law of Crimes: General principles of criminal liability, stages of crime, inchoate crimes, offences against the human body, offences against property, and drug trafficking.
- Law of Torts and Consumer Protection: Nature and definition of tort, tortious liability, specific torts, strict and absolute liability, Consumer Protection Act, and the Motor Vehicles Act.
- Commercial Law: Essential elements of contract, breach of contract, specific contracts, sale of goods, partnership, negotiable instruments, and company law.
- Family Law: Marriage and dissolution of marriage, matrimonial remedies, changing dimensions of marriage, adoption and guardianship, succession and inheritance, and uniform civil code.
- Environment and Human Rights Law: Meaning and concept of environment, international environmental law, constitutional and legal framework for environmental protection, human rights, and information technology law.
- Intellectual Property Rights and Information Technology Law: Concept of intellectual property, international conventions, copyright and neighbouring rights, law of patents and trademarks, protection of geographical indications, and information technology law.
- Comparative Public Law and Systems of Governance: Comparative law, forms of government, models of federalism, rule of law, separation of powers, independence of judiciary, and open government.
In this course, All the Topics Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be covered in detail.
Eligibilty:
To be eligible for the UGC NET Law 2024 exam, candidates must fulfill certain criteria related to their educational qualification, age, and relaxation for reserved categories.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates should have completed their Master's degree in Law (LLM) from a recognized university or institute with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks (50% for candidates belonging to reserved categories).
- Age Limit: There is no upper age limit to apply for the UGC NET Law exam. However, for candidates applying for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the maximum age limit is 30 years (relaxation for reserved categories and candidates with a Ph.D. degree).
- Relaxation for Reserved Categories: Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Transgender are eligible for relaxation in terms of the qualifying marks and age limit as per the government rules and regulations.
